Another Doug raised a vital point of running a bottoming tap down the threads. An important step often missed but one of the basics always done by pro automotive engine builders.
A light application of cam assembly lube rather than engine oil will provide more even torque readings. It has a high "point pressure" and stays between metal surfaces when ordinary lube oil squeezes out.
The use of hardened steel washers under the nuts or bolt heads will reduce galling & improve torque consistency.
Sometimes after many years of stress,heat/cooling cycles & corrosion new studs/nuts or head bolts are cheap insurance. A bolt or stud is just a "straight spring" holding the castings together.
