Well it is still up to the states to approve it. It is not allowed to be grown nationwide as of yet. I believe around 35-40 states have okayed it, but it is still only grown in 17-20 states at this point -- Iowa has not approved the growing of industrial hemp but I believe Illinois has. Those areas that were doing a pilot program that was part of the 2014 Farm Bill are eligible under the new farm bill. The provision in the farm bill does not change state laws -- where it is not okayed as of now you still can't grow it. There is a limit on the THC (the compound that produces the 'high') for it to be considered industrial hemp. Plus, there is actually more language in the farm bill on the penalties if the THC level is too high than there is on the act of growing it. It is also recognized as a crop that you can obtain crop insurance for.
