A battery with a self discharging cell (sulfate bridge) will charge the partially dead cell by running the lights. then it will crank. When I was working for Nissan we had a brand new Nissan 280-Z (18 miles on it) with a starting issue. The owner said that if she left the lights on for 10 minutes it would start fine but she got tired of the delay. A new battery fixed it. Convincing the service rep that it was bad required a load test and then running it down a bit then retesting. Jim
