Buried my dad and mom within the last 8 years. Did most of the funeral planning along with my sisters. Guess I buried my first wife 23 years ago as well. I believe it is mandatory in Iowa that a concrete vault is used. Maybe that is just what is common or expected. Sort of lead to believe it was the law. There is a group of Munks east of Manchester, Iowa, which is in Northeast Iowa that make wooden coffins for sale to the public. Toured the grounds once. They do beautiful work.
