level of gear oil in transmission on -A- Farmall

I have a "49 A" Farmall and had to replace the left rear seal on the housing comning from the transmission. When I started to put the fluid in the transmission, I couldn't find the level plug to tell when I had enough in. I looked and figured I would cover the gears and that would be enough. Now, (1 year later) I think I have a front seal leaking or I could have too much gear oil (90wt) in the transmission. The only thing on the side I see is for the pto lever & that ain't no help. How about some real help? Thanks--
