12v. conv. alternator size

I recently purchased an alternator to convert my
Farmall H TO 12 volt. My problem is that the fit is to tight, it rubs the valve pan and the hood at the same time leaving no room for adjustment of the belt and I am worried about wearing a hole
through the valve pan and also wearing on the hood. Does any one have any suggestions or ideas on what alternators if any may be a bit smaller
or any ideas at all. I bought the one I have off the net from a dealer who I trusted to send me one that would fit if I made the new bracket.
