I remember this story that my Dad told when I was really young. ...I wouldn't remember it at all, except that it got told a few times over the years. Dad swore it was not exaggerated!
Back in (I think) 1969, Dad and some friends went on a weekend fishing trip in the Gulf of Mexico. I can actually remember seeing the ice chest full of fish, and he let the other guys take the rest of his share as we just didn't have room for even that much! He was giving fish to any neighbor that wanted some.
Anyway, all of the guys in the group, except one, had a sleeping problem. The one guy was the problem. It was jokingly said if he were to ever sleep in a barn, he'd wake up the next morning to just the frame of the building! Well, this trip was no different. The fishing was AMAZING, and they were catching fish so fast that they actually stopped using bait and just threw their hooks in the water!
When the fish feeding frenzy was over, they couldn't believe how much they had! They came in to shore and decided to get a little sleep before divvying up the catch. Only problem was, this one guy snored. .....LOUD! They finally sent this guy out to sleep in the back of a truck that had a topper on it. No good. Even with the topper windows closed on that warm night, they could still hear him so loud that they couldn't sleep.
Dad finally decided to cut his weekend short and come home with a big mess of fresh fish. He was thankful for the peace & quiet of my Mom and us 2 young children. ....By the way, my nickname was Hurricane, given to me by one of my babysitters (one of the few that could control me!).
Jon, thanks for the walk down Memory Lane on this New Year's Day.

Today's Featured Article - A Lifetime of David Brown Tractors - by Samuel Kennedy. I was born in 1950 and reared on my familys 100 acre farm. It was a fairly typical Northern Ireland farm where the main enterprise was dairying but some pigs, poultry and sheep were also kept. Potatoes were grown for sale and oats were grown to be used for cattle and horse feeding. Up to about 1958 the dairy cows were fed hay with some turnips and after that grass silage was the main winter feed. That same year was the last in which flax was grown on the farm. Flax provided the fibre which w
