When you're hand cranking a mag-equipped tractor, all you need to do is pull hard enough to rotate the engine so the mag will throw a spark. You don't have to rotate the engine very fast!

I've seen lots of folks crank so hard and so fast it's fun just watching them!

P.S.: I find it easier to crank my '38 AC with the handle in the 9 o'clock position, pulling up (it usually stops at either 9 or 3). It automatically throws your cranking arm out of the way that way.
