It has been a while since I have been into a Ford 5000 but I'm sure you have to split the tractor because of the PTO clutches in the housing. Even if you manage to remove the PTO from the rear without further damage to the machine, you would still need to split the tractor to replace it. HERE IS A WARNING; When spliting the tractor. On the right sideof the housing at the foot plate there is a hydraulic line which MUST BE REMOVED, before splitting the machine. The item which holds the line on is in fact a hollow hydraulic tube going about five inches inside the tractor housing which engages and dis-engages the PTO. If you encounter resistance when splitting the tractor, STOP and make sure you removed this threaded tube with a bolt head on it. Suggest that you find some angle iron, 3" will do, and make legs for the housings to rest on when splitting the tractor. If you do this on a level concrete floor with skies on the bottom of the legs for sliding, re-assembly will be much easier. Cutting the heads off the proper size bolts, for line up bolts will ensure no damage to other components. DO NOT FORCE the sections back togather. If you encounter resistence, STOP and make sure the inside components are mating properly. Forcing the machine back togather WILL result in damage to other EXPENSIVE COMPONENTS.
