This fall I have had several fuel flow issues that came back to having lady bugs in the gas tank. They will float over the sediment bowl inlet tube and shut the gas of or slow the flow.
As for screens. Old has told you about the one on top of the sediment bowl. There is a strainer in the carburetor. There are two carburetors used on the JD 50, single induction and dual induction. On the single barrel/induction there is a strainer right at by where the gas line hooks to the carb. It has a hex on top an is a little larger in diameter than a silver dollar. On the two barrel/dual induction the strainer is right by the fuel inlet too but is more of just a larger bolt that the bottom half is the screen. Maybe 7/8 hex that seals under the head.
Another thought I have is, does your JD 50 have the low oil pressure shut off system on it??? This would have been on serial number 5016133 and up. These can stop working correctly and slow the fuel flow rather than shutting it completely off.
