You really know your stuff! Just in case you have a newer computer controlled car, you need to know that replacing your carbon core wires with solid conductor wire will confuse the computer. They do make high-quality resistance wire that is computer compatible and lasts nearly forever, called "Live Wire". About $100 a set from http://performancedistributors.com/
