M Farmall

I just bought my frist tractor it's 41 M Farmall, when talking it to my fauther inlaws farm it would slip out of 5th gear. The rear tires are not the same size, I think one is 12.5/38 and the other is 15.5or16.5-38 could this make it jump out of gear? Did buy another parts tractor with matching tires to put on. Do I have some other problem? thanks Mike
