You can call United Rental, of course, and ask about their policies. Both of the independent equipment rental yards here have flatbed trailers to rent out, and they don't care what you haul. Put a 7 wire round socket with flat connectors on your truck, and get a diagram to wire it up for "standard" plug pattern. Even if the rental trailer you find is a 4 connector, DON'T put that socket on your truck. Put the 7 connector socket on, and use an adapter if you need to pull a 4 connector trailer. Reason- 7 connector gets you trailer brake connector, which you need for a trailer of any size. You also get a hot wire, which is useful for horse trailer with interior lights (and required if the trailer has an electric jack), and backup lights.
