The hyd problem causing difficult starting is internal. My ""guess"" is it's a valve in frt hyd pump not seating correctly. Very good diagnostics will be required to locate the problem. You will need to study the hyd oil schematics in a JD 301A tech manual very diligently if you attempt to solve your tractors starting problem or as many tractor owners have done over the yrs just wiggle steering rapidly from side to side while cranking engine.
