The brakes on my MF 203 are just about like that. They do little good at stopping. I bought new shoes same problem. I just have to be careful stopping on hills. My JD has good brakes, then it's hydraulic operated. I think real aggressive lining is available from a brake shop, if you can find one that realigns brake shoes anymore.
