Turbo Diesel Register did a test of various 15w-40's a few years ago. It was a blind sampling so the initial result interpretations would not be colored by pre-conceived brand preference. IIRC the CJ-4 spec was still fairly new. One of the top five finishers was Wal-Mart Super Tech. However, looking as a whole group there was not a whole lot of difference between the top one and the bottom one. In short, they basically said that modern specifications are becoming so tight that the oils were basically forced into being good in order to legally put that label on there.
