Dave two reason for the short run. You need to re check but duration of the run can be programed just not how often. Mine kicks on ever Friday and runs (at idle) for 12 minutes. That keeps the battery charged and ready to go. Ten hours a year is really not excessive to make sure the unit is always ready. Fuel usage is like really nothing. We have a vent-less fire place that we run quite a bit and have some three day runs on the generator and something around 150 gal of propane always fills the tank in summer.
