Farming is a bulk commodity production business.
You compete at making a generic something and sell it on auction to whomever around the globe bids for it minus shipping.
Since we produce more grains, pork, beet, poultry, and dairy than we consume in the USA, our market is set by global bidders.
Farm products always get cheaper, if you factor in inflation.
And yields/ production always goes up.
And being bigger is more efficient. Not always the way you and I think, but it is more efficient to handle and sell a million lbs of milk instead of 1000 lbs of milk. Less overhead.
Machines revolutionized Ag in the 20s and 30s. Seed technology in the 90s. Computers in the 2010s.
Each of those steps said we need less farmers farming more land in a big step.
In between, year to year we drift bigger farms, less farmers needed.
Dairy is going through that now.
Owning a dozen 10,000 cow dairies and selling your milk in a big splash to a buyer is the way it works now.
A little single tanker truck driving a route and stopping every 2nd or third day at a cow barn doesnt. Paperwork, rules, regulations, overhead.
The illegal immigration issue is a big part of it. Many of these large, and even fairly small dairies, are being manned by folk under the radar, paid pretty cheap and no benefits. Its unfortunate, but it contributes to big dairies getting bigger on cheap labor, while the family run dairy is going under. But that appears to be what is supported politically today.

On our first cosmetic restoration, not having a manual, we carefully marked the wires, taped the magneto in the position it came off, and were careful not to turn the engine over while we had these components off. We thought we could get by with this since the engine ran perfectly and would not need any internal work. After the cleanup and painting was done, we began reassembly and finally came to t
