The farmers in Canada, without supply management, would , in a very short time , produce far more milk than the domestic market could possibly consume. Therefore, with all export restrictions removed, Canada would also be , just like Europe, and the USA, looking to dump there surplus products on the world market, adding even more to the existing problem. Canada has a tremendous amount of untapped agricultural potential to produce both livestock, dairy and poultry, but with no profitable end market, what would be the point? I often hear folks talk about feeding the starving world, and how can we do this if we are losing good farm land to cities. The truth is, we could produce much more food to feed the starving world , if they had the money to pay for it. There is no food shortage in world, just a money shortage.
