Where you are deapvtillage is more important due to compaction. And it works better because it's dryer. Around here rippers are not used much because frost goes down 3-4' most years so there is not much hard pan. Plus most falls it's very wet here like this year and dragging them through the mud only digs trenches and doesn't shatter the pan anyway. Most around here use chizel plows of some sort, but plows are used again some to get the bennifits of turning weeds and pests under. It also helps to get the soil as dark as possible to help with warming in spring. I plow because I don't have a chizel yet.
