The yellow clay was tough. From 8 inches to 24' the 2 engined Euclid Pans were being pushed by 2 D-8 cats on each pass. Cutting 4 inch thick pass, the clay came off the blade in a slab that came out the top of the basket and tried to remove the stack and air cleaner from the rear engine. The operators hired (crazy) temps to break the slabs so they would fall inside till they bunched up. The Cat grousers left 2 foot bars of the clay, each of which was stiff enough to support a lunch bucket when held from the other end. Jim
