I just bought a used tractor and the bias 4 ply, tube type tire has been mounted and used for several years at least......this is an important part of this answer.....opinion. Had a slow leak. Was operated in areas where things like Mesquite and Black Locust trees were common. Was used primarily for brush/bush/grass hogging.
Did the soap and water thing and accidentally found a thorn stuck in the sidewall half way between the tread and rim. Did the plug thing in the normal manner not realizing at the time it was TT. It's been several weeks now, the tractor has been worked pretty hard and the patch is holding.
I figue it worked because the tube had time to semi-vulcanize itself to the tire and where wasn't any squirming between the two and it held.
