I had a friend who used to grow a lot of watermelons and cantaloupes. He sold most of them right off the farm, but occasionally would haul some to Washington, D.C. The "local wildlife" would climb on the back of the truck at the first light, as soon as they crossed the bridge. My friend's nephew couldn't stand the thought of someone stealing something that he worked so hard to raise. When they got home from the first load, he sharpened a corn knife to a razor edge. Second trip was a different story! He got in the back of the truck before they crossed the bridge, and every time a hand came over the top of the truck side, down came the knife! His uncle was scared to death, but said he looked and couldn't find any extra fingers! By the fourth trip, the word had spread! They gave them truck some funny looks, but nobody tried to climb aboard!
