: I currently have the head off of my 1951 MT. I am : thinking of porting and polishing the ports. Is : it worth the time? How much actual power increase : is there? What tools will I need? I already have an : air die grinder. Thanks for any information. Joe Aside from just matching up port openings, porting and polishing is used to increase air flow into an engine in order to enable higher RPM and thus more horsepower. It is actually possible to cause a loss in engine torque at lower RPM due to a loss of volumetric efficiency in the fuel delivery system. In other words, the fuel air mixture velocity in the bigger port opening is lower, results in a less efficient fuel/air charge being delivered to the cylinder at low RPM. So while you have the head off, have it resurfaced and be done with it. Jeff King
