I think there is a lot of �adjusting� they need to do on the radar images. Fog and humidity show up,ground clutter and reflections off cloud layers and city emmisssions..... the radar puts out a whole lot of power and that is very strong close to the radar tower, not so strong 300 miles away....
And there is often a ring of some sort around the tower locations. I see it up here in Minnesota area on humid cool nights most often. They can adjust that extra clutter out; but then they lose some signal strength in other areas. So they try o keep it tuned up to just below that clutter and reflections show up.
