15 years ago Dr may have done more fusions than today. They left some on pain meds for the rest of their life. Back then Dr didn't have a way to locate nerves. Dr told me if he runs a screw into your nerve, I would be pooping in a bag and get pushed around in a wheelchair. No thanks.
I'm sure surgery techniques have improved. My Dr said wait until hospital get a machine to locate nerves. I said NO THANKS.
A friend has spinal issues. His Dr told him if you are not in a wheelchair forget fusion.
A few years ago neighbor put a shotgun in his mouth. He was on lifetime of pain killers because of many botched spinal surgeries. Not sure if the pain killers is why he decided to off himself.
