Forward means GO, back means STOP, same way with rains on a horse, pull back means for them to stop. I would not want a hand clutch that you would pull back to go, just opposite of normal reaction. I owned 5 hand clutch Deeres and liked them, only thing is they had a bit too fast reverce. Also had a MM for a while and if I remember correctly after almost 50 years Forward was go, back was stop. The only way for a hand clutch to pull back would be to dissengage while you were holding it to shift and release with it going forward again to engage.
