: : : : : Okay this is my first time here. I have a Model MT, I'm not sure what year and I was wondering how I could find out. I've looked for manufacturing dates and I can't find any. Is there a way of determining year from serial number ( like say a 360594 maybe a 1943 ) I have a sickle bar mower attached to the rear of it and I just wanted to restore the tractor and know how old it was. I was also told that John Deere Green and John Deere Antique Green is the same color, can any one help me as of what color my tractor is. I always thought Antique green seemed to be more yellow green than dark green. I am also looking into a Model "B" which has lights near the steering wheel, is this standard or would it help determine the year??? Thanks in advance... Mud

: : : By the way, the "MT" was made from 1949 through 1952. Jogg.
: : : : Mud, Welcome to YTmag. Having the serial number will enable you to find the year of manufacture with no problem. Just post it back here and I or someone else will look it up for you. I've always been told that JD Green is JD Green. The differences in shade are from weathering and fading. The fact that the "B" has lights would help to narrow the range of years it could have been made, but the placement is standard. While you're at it restore the mower too, if it's an original JD. Good Luck! Jogg.

: :
: : The serial number is 37550 I beleive, if that isn't enough digits it's 370550, I'd have to go check and make sure but I know the first 2 digits is 37 and last 3 is 550. The mower is a genuine John Deere Mower, I'm possible going to try to restore it too, it works but it has a lot of NH guards and other parts which isn't john deere just to get it through the hay season. BTW, About how much is a Model "B" worth before restoring and after. I also know of a guy with a Model "R" say's it has steel wheels. Needs a Magneto supposedly but wants to sell it for $10,000. Is that about average for old steel wheeled tractors. I haven't had good luck out here finding to many steel wheeled tractors. Lots of Farmall's it seems like
: Mud, Better go check. My book says that "MT" serial numbers ran from 10001 to 35845.
:: This is my first time in this sight, too. I was just going to say that The "R" is a deisel model only. Therefore the only Mag on it is the pony Motor mag. The "R" also came standard on rubber, nnot steel. Steel was an option, though. And, Think again about the price before you get ripped off. The model "R" would bring no more than 6,000-7,000 in excelent shape. Chase

Today's Featured Article - Identifying Tractor Smells - by Curtis Von Fange. We are continuing our series on learning to talk the language of our tractor. Since we can’t actually talk to our tractors, though some of the older sect of farmers might disagree, we use our five physical senses to observe and construe what our iron age friends are trying to tell us. We have already talked about some of the colors the unit might leave as clues to its well-being. Now we are going to use our noses to diagnose particular smells. ELECTRICAL SMELLS ... [Read Article]
