When we had to run electric fence around a gate we put two Really, realy tall wood lath pieces. The other gate had two full lenth pieces of one inch pipe strapped to the big gate posts. Run the wire with insulators over top like a power line. Just make sure it is high enough a farm wagon won't hit it.
