Yes Your alternator has a built in voltage regulator. But please do not change the starter. leave the 6 volt starter on there. 6 volt starters are designed to handle nore current because thay operate on lower voltage. so it will only last longer under the higher voltage and less current. : : When converting from 6 volt pos ground to 12 volt neg ground : : with GM alt.W/reg built in, should the old reg. be by-passed? : : Old reg has three connections - Batt, Field and Arm. : Remove the old 6 volt regulator. You already unhooked Field and Arm wires at the generator you took off. Hook the Batt wire to the alternator output. : Gerald
