I haven't needed to use any wasp spray in the past couple of years, but it isn't enough to just spray the nest. The spray has to make contact with the heads of the wasps.
You can likely go out during the night (no light, if possible) and spray Raid Flying Insect Killer up into the hive. Either that, or get a bug fogger and rig it up where the fogger sprays its contents into the hive. When finished spraying, try to seal the entrance with aluminum tape or something, just to help keep the wasps in where the poison is.
Raid Flying Insect Killer doesn't shoot real far like wasp and hornet spray, so will better coat the inside of the hive. Raid is the best I've found, and ALL other brands I've tried have only given marginal success.
