: I am in the process of restoring a Super A. Someone told me to use a 8-Volt battery, to help turn it over faster. Is this Ok with the electrical system. Is it ok to charge it up with a 6-volt battery charger? I have a 12V battery charger, and it doesn't seem to charge the battery correctly, so I stopped.
Steve,
Go ahead and put an 8 volt battery in if want to have
a little easier starting. The engine turns over a
little faster which helps intake vacuum which vaporized
the gas easier and fires sooner. Also gives you more
voltage to the sparkplugs if you have points vs mag.
Just adjust the charging voltage to 9.6 from 7.2 you
should have currently. Is very simple to go back to
orginial put a 6 volt battery back in and re-adjust
the charging voltage. 8 volt batteries came onto the
market as a fix for hard starting 6 volt systems. If
the 6 volt systems are so good why are they in the
dustbin of history?

As for your battery charger use the 6 volt fast position
and it will charge an 8 volt battery fine.

Have fun with your rebuild project that's what this
is all about.

Good Luck,
Lee
