Cast can be brazed if you know what you're doing. I have a wood cook stove that needs a similar repair. I've lost the piece that got knocked loose and I'm going to have to fit a piece of steel in it's place. The whole things will need to be pre-heated, I'm sure, and will probably need some sealant (fire clay type) to fill the tiny gaps. Find a decent welding shop that knows brazing and it can be done.
