Interesting. I have the same problem and left/cut around a thicket of dogbane yesterday, plan to spray it tomorrow after the hay is baled. I will use Grazon Next HL. I have about given up on clover in my hay, the weeds get so bad that they negate the advantages of the clover. I have baled a little bit of dogbane in my hay for years without any poison problems but it is spreading and I plan to knock it out with multiple spraying as needed.
