for many years I have worked with gear drive tractors. 706/806 504/cubs and enjoyed all of them. This year my son purchased a 656 hydro and has been very happy with its performance. One question we both have is how to best brake the tractor at road speeds. we have been pulling some pretty heavy hay wagons lately and when I want to slow down from say 14 MPH to a stop should I use a combination of the brake and the hydro control or can the transmission take the strain of just slowly easing back on the stick. This machine only has about 3000 hours and I would like to keep it usable for the foreseeable future and definitely don't need a hydro failure.
