I was wondering what it took to keep this beast going, so I asked my contact who knows these machines. This is what he said:
On machines smaller than 1 cubic yard bucket capacity, the operator generally took care of greasing and adjustments, machines over that size always had an oiler assigned to them along with the operator, to do lube and adjustments, (if you look at old pictures of shovels/cranes, you most always see a second man on the machine somewhere- that's the Oiler). A mechanic generally took care of any heavy maintenance/repair on all sizes of machines.
