Those aren't flakes, those are chunks!
If they are aluminum, I would suspect it's the cam gear or oil pump drive gear. If steel could be the governor ball cage.
Pieces of the governor ball cage can also run through the cam gear and break pieces off.
There is a chance the issue has already been repaired, but the pan wasn't cleaned.

But, if you keep running it, watch the oil pressure. Those have a weak oil pump design. A piece of that find it's way through the pick up screen it will lock the pump.
