3/8 grade 70 chain; that is a common size; has a WLL of 6600 lbs. In a 4 point hookup you are only allowed to count 50% of the WLL so each chain is 3300 lbs. You would have 2 chains on the back so you are holding 6600 lbs. You need to hold .8 on the back against forward movement. So two 3/8 grade 70 chain will hold a tractor that weighs 8250 lbs from forward movement. You would also need the 2 chains on the front.
The weird part is if you use 1 chain on the back and run it from one side of the trailer threw the back hitch on the tractor to the other side of the trailer you can hold this same 8250 lb tractor. Makes no sense to me but that is the way the rule is written.
