Randy I feel your pain on this. I use Quicken but a newer version than yours. So I have very little knowledge that would help.
Some things I do with my records.
First I always back them up after every single time I enter records. Thumb drives are cheap.
Second I very rarely do updates to my computer. I have found over the years that updates rarely help anything and many times cause trouble with the programs you use. The computer I am currently using has not been "updated" in at least six months.
The only thing I update is my anti-various program. That I usually allow to update when it wants to. I have my computer set so it always asked before doing any updates.
Also I did NOT allow Microsoft to install/update to Windows 10 on this computer. Yes I do not like the Windows 8.1 but I hate the privacy issues with Windows 10.
