1) BAT terminal on VR wires to the LOAD (NOT Battery/Starter SUPPLY) side of Ammeter. That's the same place that BAT on a Cutout Relay used to connect.
2) FLD terminal on VR wires to Gennys FLD post. The wire that used to go from gennys FLD up to the light switch is disconnected.
3) ARM post on Genny wire to VR's GEN/ARM terminal.
If you have a 3 brush genny that's adjustable, I would set it to the max charge location.
I would be sure to Polarize the genny BEFORE start up just to be on the safe side.
The new 6 Volt Class A VR needs to be compatible with (if still original) your original POS grounded tractor
BOTH the Genny and VR need good case/frame grounds.
If I missed anything hopefully the other fine gents can add to this.
NOTE this is for a 3 terminal VR (BAT FLD GEN) if you have a 4 terminal (BAT LOAD FLD GEN) let me know
I'm ONLY answering the question you asked, NOT questioning your reasons or advantages or disadvantages.
This assumes the VR you have is compatible with your Genny ?????????????/
