Jim let me put it this way. How many gallons an hour does your car or truck burn? But you most likely know about how many miles per gallon you get? So it's really the same thing. And gallons per hour can be misleading. That's because tractor A may burn 10 gallons an hour but only covers 8 acres an hour while tractor B may burn 10 gallons an hour but does 16 acres an hour. On the face of it both tractor burn 10 gallons an hour. Gallons an hour only tells you what it burns, not how efficient it is.
I think we get stuck on what we have learned. For years they talked about gallons per hour. Now some people are starting to look at the cost per acre to operate a machine.
