My dad bought a used 1951 Buick Super with OHV straight 8 engine and DynaFlow transmission in 1955 to replace his 1947 Pontiac tudor sedan company car that had 176K+ miles on it.
The Buick was our "good" car until 1961 when it was replaced with the used 1958 Oldsmobile 98.
The Buick served us well. It had about 190K miles on it when retired and had had no major engine or transmission work. Even the Sonomatic tube type radio with vibrator worked when it was hauled to the scrappers sometime in the early 1970s.
I remember that Buick had hydraulic valve lifters in, IIRC, 1939. Buick also innovated the 4 barrel carburetor and kept it from other GM divisions for a couple of years until the corporate brass forced them to allow the other divisions to use it.
