Big kerfluffel about USPS delivering stuff for Amazon at a cheap rate. But its a money-maker for the USPS, because their variable cost of delivering a package in addition to their regular mail is almost zero. The mail has to be sorted and the mailman has to drive right by your house whether he has anything for you or not- might as well get a little bit for an extra package than nothing at all.
As far as the union UPS guys being upset about having to dump half their load at the post office, I'd say when you're ready and willing to deliver regular mail every day for 49 cents a letter, THEN you can complain.
