oldtanker the other side of the coin is if your not taking any risk then why should you get more rent if the crop price doubled in value????? Share crop arrangements where the most common form of renting land until about 30 years ago. This dated back to the middle ages when the Lord/King got a percentage of the crop.
When I started farming in the mid 1970s the common split was 25% to the land owner for corn/wheat and 1/3 to the landowner for soybeans.
