I had sorta the same thing quite a few years ago. I had built a custom bookcase/desk unit for my Mom (solid Black Walnut). It was/is pretty nice. She went for the telephone alert system (getting older) that gives you a medallion to wear around your neck if you fall. I built the thing with a 5/8" space at the back of the desk level for phone line. Well, the dolts that came for the 'medic alert' deal DRILLED through the side of the unit TWICE - once to get it out from under the desk (remember space?) and again to route it over the desk top. I sued them - didn't have to -sent pictures, got a nice BIG check for Mom, but those stupid axxwholes ruined a nice piece of custom furniture. Rant over.
