Everyone changed how it was done in 2012 after a class action suit against battery companies. Prorating was evidently too difficult for some folks to understand. The problem was the price batteries were bought for could be lower than what it prorated for. Prorate was figured off retail price, but if you bought the battery on sale, it could cost more to replace on a prorate than you paid for it to start with.
