Early pagans in Europe celebrated the festival of Ester the goddess of fertility. Part of that were baby chickens and bunnies. When the early church Christianized the people, instead of doing away with their holidays, they repurposed them. Since the feast of Ester was arround the vernal equinox, they shifted it to Passover and keeping the name, commemorated the crucifixion and resurrection Of my LORD Jesus. They did the same thing with the winter solstice. No one knows when Jesus was born. He could have been born in July, but it was decided to celebrate his birth and co-opt the Yule celebration.
