My self I would start by trouble shooting then parts NEVER the other way around. #1 I would have the batteries check. I'd charge them up and take them in to have them load tested to make sure they are in fact bad. #2 With it running you need to check what voltage you have at the batteries. Run it should read around 14 volts if the charging system is working. If you do not have 14 or so volts you need to figure out why the charging system is not working.
