I was looking at water proof connections, they recommended petroleum jelly and heat shrink tube. From that, I would assume heat shrink is compatible with petroleum.
But I couldn't find anything about splicing in a petroleum base solvent environment, so I looked at splicing inside a fuel tank. All I found were forums. Some said shrink tube worked, some said it dissolved over time. But one thing that all agreed on was the simple plastic coated, crimp butt splice.
The plastic did not degrade in gasoline, so I would assume it would be safe in solvent.
And then there is the consideration of solvent entering the cut end of the cable and entering the pump. If it hasn't already been cut, possibly leaving the molded plug on the cable and plugging it into a molded SO (oil resistant) extension cord could be a better solution.
