I read an article about someone once paying an outrageous price for a '56 Corvette that had supposedly belonged to Elvis.
It had to have been a fraud. A bill of sale came with the car showing it was purchased from a dealer in New England on a day when Elvis was in Texas. The car had a stick shift transmission, and Chevy's run of '56 'Vettes with stick shifts didn't occur until after the date on the bill of sale. The car was the wrong color. Etc. Etc.
Other people pointed out that when this car was supposedly sold to Elvis, his career was just starting and he wouldn't have been able to afford a Corvette. Others said Elvis was a Lincoln/Cadillac man and probably wouldn't have wanted a Corvette. And so it went.
The fellow who paid the price still swore it was genuine. I don't know what ever became of it.
